Rarity Tier Guide

Pull rates, OVR ranges, and what each rarity means for your squad.

Last updated:

Understanding rarity tiers is fundamental to playing Build A Blue Lock Squad efficiently. Every character belongs to a rarity class that determines pull difficulty, base OVR range, and visual presentation. This guide breaks down every rarity tier from Common to Elusive so you can set realistic expectations for each reroll and recognize when a pull is genuinely exciting versus merely average.

The LockerRoom’s gacha squad builder features 200+ Blue Lock characters distributed across five rarity tiers. Rarity does not automatically equal tier placement — a high-performing Epic can outperform a low-end Legendary — but rarity strongly correlates with stat ceilings and long-term squad value.

Rarity Tier Overview

RarityOVR RangePull RateSquad Value
Common40-55~50%Reroll immediately
Rare55-70~30%Early game only
Epic70-82~15%Mid game keepers
Legendary82-92~4%Late game core
Elusive90-99~1%Best in slot

Pull rates are approximate community-estimated values. The game does not publish official drop rates, and rates may shift with updates like the ELUSIVES Update.

Common Tier

Commons are filler characters with OVR ranges of 40-55. Every new player starts with Common squad members, and most reroll sessions produce at least one Common in the replacement pool.

Action: Reroll immediately. Never keep a Common unless it is literally your first character and the only option available. Commons exist to be replaced — they have no place in any squad beyond the first five minutes of gameplay.

Commons do not appear in the Tier List rankings because they are universally C-tier or below.

Rare Tier

Rares occupy the 55-70 OVR range and make up roughly 30% of pulls. They are meaningful upgrades over Commons in the first hour of play but become liabilities once your squad average climbs past 65.

Action: Keep Rares during your first 10-20 rerolls if they raise squad OVR. Reroll Rares aggressively once any squad member hits 70+ OVR. Most Rare strikers land in B-tier or C-tier on the Best Strikers list.

Epic Tier

Epics span 70-82 OVR and represent the first rarity where characters can genuinely compete in mid-game squads. Roughly 15% of pulls produce an Epic.

Action: Evaluate against the tier list before deciding. High-end Epics (80+ OVR) often rank A-tier and are worth keeping for extended periods. Low-end Epics (70-75 OVR) are temporary placeholders — keep until you pull something better.

Epics are the sweet spot for free-to-play progression. Stack rerolls from Working Codes and Free Rerolls and you will accumulate several Epics within your first week.

Legendary Tier

Legendaries range from 82-92 OVR with approximately a 4% pull rate. These are the characters that define competitive squads and appear prominently on the Best Characters page.

Action: Almost always keep. Legendary pulls include fan favorites like Kaiser, Barou, Bachira, and Shidou. Compare against the tier list — most Legendaries rank A-tier or S-tier. Only reroll a Legendary if it is a low-end copy AND you already have an S-tier alternative at the same position.

Pulling a Legendary is a milestone moment. Screenshot it and compare stats against your current weakest squad member before confirming.

Elusive Tier

Elusives are the rarest pull at roughly 1% rate, with OVR ranges of 90-99. The ELUSIVES Update introduced new Elusive characters including enhanced NEL variants — NEL Isagi, NEL Rin, and NEL Nagi.

Action: Always keep. Never reroll an Elusive under any circumstances unless you are replacing it with a higher-OVR Elusive at the same position. Elusives represent dozens of rerolls worth of expected value.

See Elusive Characters for the complete Elusive roster and individual stat profiles.

Rarity vs Competitive Tier

Rarity and tier placement are related but not identical:

  • A Legendary C-tier character exists — high rarity but poor stat distribution for meta roles
  • An Epic A-tier character can outperform that Legendary in specific squad builds
  • Elusive does not always mean S-tier, but every current Elusive character ranks S-tier or high A-tier

Use rarity as a quick filter and the Tier List as the definitive keep-or-reroll reference.

Rarity and the Refresh Mechanic

When you refresh a roll, the rarity distribution of the new pool follows the same rates as a normal pull. Refreshing does not increase Legendary or Elusive rates — it simply gives you another random sample from the same odds.

However, if your current pool already shows an Epic or Legendary, refreshing risks losing that option. Our Reroll Strategy guide covers when refreshing is worth the gamble.

Maximizing Rarity on Limited Rerolls

You cannot force higher rarities, but you can maximize attempts:

  1. Redeem all active codes from Working Codes for 25+ rerolls
  2. Complete Daily Quests every day
  3. Claim Free Rerolls from Sendou and social actions
  4. Only reroll when your weakest player is below the rarity you want to beat

More rerolls equals more chances at Legendary and Elusive pulls. The High OVR Squad Guide maps how many rerolls each progression stage typically requires.

Rarity Changes Across Updates

Developers can adjust rarity assignments during patches. The ELUSIVES update elevated certain characters to Elusive tier and adjusted OVR ranges for existing Legendaries. Track changes through Patch History and the Updates Hub.

Community data on pull rates is shared through Discord & Community Links — there is no official Trello with drop rate tables.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the rarest tier in Build A Blue Lock Squad?

Elusive is the rarest tier at approximately 1% pull rate, with OVR ranges of 90-99.

Should I keep Epic characters?

High-end Epics (80+ OVR) are worth keeping in mid-game squads. Low-end Epics are temporary placeholders to reroll later.

Does refreshing increase my chance of Legendary pulls?

No. Refresh uses the same rarity distribution as a normal pull. It gives you a new random sample, not improved odds.

What OVR range do Legendary characters have?

Legendaries typically range from 82 to 92 OVR depending on the specific character.

How many rerolls does it take to pull an Elusive?

At roughly 1% rate, expect around 100 rerolls on average. Variance is high — some players pull one early, others go much longer.

Are NEL variant characters Elusive tier?

Yes. NEL Isagi, NEL Rin, and NEL Nagi are Elusive-tier characters introduced in the ELUSIVES update.
